Tales from the Road: Sneak Peek at the Next Update

Hey, how's it going? Doing alright given the circumstances? I hope so. I'm doing pretty alright myself, working on this project has helped keep me motivated, so that's pretty cool.

Know what's even cooler? A sneak peek at some of the stuff I've been hacking away at the last few weeks. No updates being pushed today but you'll get to see one of the cooler things coming soon. I don't want to give everything away, obviously. But when I was messing around with some features I was like "Man,  I don't want to wait 2-3 weeks to show this off." So here are.

Wanna start off with the coolest feature first? Cause I do, and since I'm writing this guess what that means?

We get to see the coolest feature first. Which is... art. I think it's best if you have a look at it yourself:

Is that a picture of Sasha you're looking at? Yes, it is! It's a fantastic bit of artwork I had commissioned from kasscabel. I had this done like a week ago but didn't get around to putting it in-game until recently, been busy writing. Looks pretty good in-game, way better than just having text, at least.

I'm pretty happy about finally getting artwork put in game, it's something I've wanted to do from the very start. Only issue was, I can't draw. I've tried but I just can't do it. Even my handwriting is equal to that of a Doctor's, it's bad. That meant I'd have to get the characters commissioned by someone that can actually do art, and I just couldn't justify that kind of cost for a project like this. Keyword being "couldn't" because now, costs be damned! The rest of the world has stopped giving a fuck  so I have too! Also it was a lot less expensive than I expected, that helps too. I've kind of lost interest in video games recently (F), and I can't go out right now, so I'm just spending my hobby money on this and car stuff instead, worth it. My weekend drives are the only thing I look forward to on Saturdays now.

So does this mean other characters are going to get art as well? Yessir, it does. I plan on getting the other 3 main side characters commissioned as well. That means Sasha, Holly, Valery, and Jacob will all eventually have art in-game. This inclusion of art could delay the update a little bit, since I have to get each character commissioned. Don't really want to bombard the artist with 3 requests in one week, seems like kind of a dick move. So I'll probably get one done every week or so. Probably. I hate setting deadlines so the artwork and the update get here then they get here.

You also might've noticed a rough looking "skip song" button on the side bar as well, which means yes, I'm adding background music in the next update. And that button, as it says, will skip a song if you press it. Still need to do the CSS for it, which has proven to be a bit jank but I'll figure it out.

I will be using all royalty-free music for the BGM because I don't have the patience or desire to learn something like FL studio and make my own music. Also the royalty-free music kind of slaps, there's some really talented royalty-free artists and some really good royalty-free songs, so I'm cool with it.

Alright, I think that's about it for now. The update will be coming soonTM, maybe it'll be out in 2 weeks, maybe it'll be out in 4.  Who knows. Until then, take care.

5/7 Update on the update:

I kind of forgot that I have finals May 11th - 15th.  Because of this, the update probably won't be out until after May 15th at the very soonest. Sorry amig@s, but the education that dictates my hopes and dreams comes before my passion project. I'm sure you understand. I'll make it up by adding some extra content to Holly's date.
